Privacy policy

1. What we collect

We collect the following information when you use Botanicaly:

  • Account Information: Email address and profile information if you choose to create an account.
  • Plant Data: Information about your plants, including species, photos, care schedules, and custom notes.
  • Location Data: We collect optional location data for local weather and care recommendations. Newer app versions reduce new device-derived locations to city level. A location saved by an older version may remain more precise until you run a newer version while signed in; the app then migrates the location saved in your profile to city level.
  • Photos: Images you upload or take using your camera for plant identification and tracking.

2. How we use your data

  • Provide plant identification services.
  • Generate personalized care schedules and notifications.
  • Fetch relevant weather data for your plants.
  • Improve our app experience and features.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

3. Third-party services

  • Google Firebase: Authentication (email, Google, and Apple sign-in), Firestore database, Cloud Storage for plant photos, Cloud Functions, Crashlytics for crash reports, and product-usage Analytics linked after sign-in to an internal account identifier, not your email address or name.   • Google Gemini: Botanicaly uses Gemini through our Cloud Functions for AI plant identification and diagnosis. Care chat also uses Gemini. Per Gemini API policy, your photos and prompts are not used to train Google’s models. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
  • MET Norway and GeoNames: Botanicaly searches a bundled copy of the GeoNames dataset, so the city name you type is not sent to a third-party geocoder. Under the MET Norway terms, MET Norway receives only the city-level coordinates used for local forecasts. Your account identity is never sent. Newer app versions reduce device-derived coordinates to city level before sending them and, when you are signed in, reduce a more precise location stored in your profile when you run the app. Older versions may have sent or retained a more precise coordinate; updating does not delete data that may already have been transmitted.
  • RevenueCat: Subscription status for Botanicaly Pro. Purchases are processed by the App Store or Google Play. We and RevenueCat do not receive your card details. See the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
  • Public website analytics: Google Analytics measures anonymous visits and interactions unless analytics is disabled for the session.

4. Data storage & security

Your data is securely stored using Google Firebase infrastructure. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, but remember that no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

5. Your rights

  • Export: You can export your data at any time.
  • Delete: You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from the Settings screen.
  • Access: You can access and update your information within the app.

6. Children’s privacy

Our service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
